In 1992 God led many people to pray for a Spirit-filled bilingual Christian school in Costa Rica. In August of 1993 God made it possible for Liberty Christian Academy to open its doors in the facilities of Union Church with five students and 3 teachers. God’s call was and still is to equip bilingual Christian leaders in excellence. We want to acknowledge and give thanks to the founders of LCA (Marilyn Garvey Gelvin, Hanssell and Marta Morua, and Wendy Mora) for their obedience and steadfastness in following the call of God.
In the year 2000 Union Church formally incorporated LCA as a ministry of the church. Over the years God has never failed to provide for every need of the school: administrative staff, teachers, students, curriculum, materials and equipment. To this day He has “grown the school in wisdom and stature with favor before God and man” as He promised from the beginning, giving the scripture from Luke 2:52.
After leading as General Director for nearly 17 years, Mrs. Wendy Mora retired in 2013 and Mr. Aaron Smith later assumed the position in mid-2014. Mr. Smith has a passion to see Christ glorified through the lives of students and and comes from several generations of Christian teachers, administrators, and an ACSI founding executive (the world’s largest Christian education organization).
